I read a story the other day about a guy who wanted to go deer hunting but needed to find someone to go with. So he goes down to the local pub in hopes of finding a partner and it turns out the bartender was going the next day (or just after work, I should say, since the departure time was 4 a.m.) So what else can one do 'til then but sit, wait... and have a few drinks? Well this guy, who doesn't normally drink that much, really ties one on trying to keep up with the boys. 4 a.m. rolls around and he and the bartender make their way to the bartender's ranch land up in the hills and proceed to set up in their respective spots to wait out the prey. This guy is really blitz as he climbs the tree that will serve as his hunting perch. When he reaches the top he gets situated but then realizes how dizzy he is. He proceeds to climb back down and lie on a boulder at the bottom of the tree until his 'head clears'. The next thing he knows he's waking up to find daylight and a herd of the biggest deer he's ever laid eyes on, grazing around his boulder bed. He moves very slowly and carefully and reaches for his weapon... "Wow! That's what I'm talkin' about!" he thinks to himself - until he realizes his weapon is still at the top of the tree. The moral of the story, he says, is drinking and hunting don't mix. Duh! Although when I hear 'drinking and hunting don't mix', I can think of a lot worse outcomes. Let that be a lesson to ya and don't let the big one (or big ones) get away!

aint nuthin wrong with getting a little buzz before you go huntin, but not to the point where you dont know whats going on. you gotta be responsible. i would be soooo mad if they all got away. BUt i got a story. i was huntin wild boar with my husband and it was like 6 in the morning. we had been sitting there a while when we saw a nice boar walk by. I told my husband to go ahead and take this one, so he set up his shot. he had his sights on it and was about to pull the trigger when a bird attacks us. it swoops down and rams him in the head, and gets stuck in my hair. apparently there was a nest right above our treestand and we were too close to it and the momma attacked. luckily it was a smaller bird, but unfortunately the boar got away. we relocated the treestand so we wouldnt bother the momma and her babies, and i'm glad we did. we both got huge boars that day, and every year we go back to that spot and we get some pretty decent sized boars. i guess the little birdy was giving us a clue that that wasnt the best place to hunt.

    Tongue out
